Introducing Grow Afterschool, something new from PP&R.

Picture

Portland Parks & Recreation's Grow Afterschool program gives kids the opportunity to plant and harvest crops, taste seasonal vegetables, prepare healthy recipes and even go on field trips to local markets and farms.

In Spring 2012, the program was piloted at St. Johns and Charles Jordan Community Centers. Currently, Grow Afterschool is offered at Charles Jordan Commnunity Center, St. Johns Community Center, Sellwood Community Center and Hillside Community Center. Register online now.

Implementation of Grow Afterschool was made possible through a USDA Food and Nutrition Service Child Care Wellness grant. The grant seeks to increase produce consumption, encourage healthy beverage consumption, and increase physical activity in afterschool programs serving meals in the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
